Corval Reaches 1 Million Hours Without a Lost Time Injury

Corval is excited to announce that we achieved 1 Million Hours without a Lost Time Injury!

We attribute our success to our culture of reinforcing positive behaviors (SPOT), planning (SSSP), teaching (JIT), discussion (THA), communication (APB), observation (SSA), and challenging uncertainties (SWA). The elimination of workplace injuries, incidents, and near-miss events is a company goal we strive towards.

In addition to 1 Million Hours No Lost Time, Corval has also achieved the following milestones:

EMR (Experience Modification Rate)

  • As of July 1, Corval’s EMR is 0.50 (National average is 1.0) and places us as one of the safest contractors in the nation.

1 Year Recordable-Free

  • We reached a significant milestone by surpassing 1 year without a recordable incident. Not many companies in our industry see 1 month recordable-free, let alone 1 year!

500 Days NLT (No Lost Time)

  • Corval is over 500 days without a Lost Time injury. Lost Time has to do with an incident that requires hospitalization or a doctor’s order to remain home and not perform any type of work.

How we can continue our success:

  • Developing Site Specific Safety Plans and communicating those plans to the crew. These plans provide detailed project information on the scope of work, schedule, client & project-specific expectations, environmental concerns, projects risks, and mitigations.
  • Our Task Hazard Analysis (THA) process helps identify and mitigate hazards for every task. Performing THAs allows us to thoroughly communicate hazards and mitigations to the crew.
  • Performing Site Safety Audits (SSA) through Corval’s Safety portal. These SSAs alert the Project Manager & Safety Team of project concerns and grants us the opportunity to quickly support a project when issues arise.
  • Participation in our Positive Reinforcement Program (SPOTs). Writing SPOTs and sharing the Situation/Behavior/Outcome with the observed employee creates an opportunity for praise and reinforcement of positive behavior.
  • Reporting incidents and near-misses allows the Safety Team to investigate and learn what happened so we can avoid repeat occurrences. Accident Prevention Bulletins (APBs) are then developed to communicate our learnings to the entire company.

By recognizing the importance of Safety in the workplace and emphasizing personal safety in every work location, Corval remains in the top of its class. We will continue to strive for world-class safety on job sites, in the office and at home, through our Safety motto– “No One Gets Hurt.”
