Abengoa-Solana – Solar Power Plant

Share Project:

Corval fabricated and installed high pressure piping for Abengoa-Solana’s solar power electric generating facility in Arizona. This unique Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) 280 MW plant has an electrical output of 250 MW and is oversized by 70% to ensure the plant will achieve 100% coverage during the summer’s peak capacity. The plant is designed to capture solar energy collected by miles of parabolic mirrors that are synchronized with the sun. The collected solar energy then heats oil contained in collection tubes, which is transferred through heat exchangers to generate steam. The steam is then sent to turbines producing electricity to be sold to Arizona Public Service. Corval’s fabrication group performed shop production and QA/QC functions, fabricating primarily carbon steel piping with a small amount of stainless steel. Pipe sizes ranged from 3/4″ schedule 80 through 42″ diameter over one inch thick. We met the tight seven month time frame and completed the project under budget.
